A to Z Challenge - E is for Emmalee

It's time for another A to Z Challenge! This year, I want to tell you about a story that is currently a WIP (work in progress). It's the story I'm writing in honor of my baby lovebird, Robert. It's a fantasy story, but it's really a story about emotional healing. So let's examine it by going through the alphabet!

Today, we are up to the letter e. E is for Emmalee.

Emmalee is the name of the main character, the narrator in The Good Pirate, Robert.

We experience all of Locreya, and all of the adventures with Robert through Emmalee's eyes. We also get to experience her thoughts and emotions. Writing in first person gives you a whole new perspective on the story. It's really quite fascinating to write.

Emmalee is a curious, strong willed, vibrant young woman. She pokes fun at Robert, but is quite dependent on him.She quickly finds her place among his crew. She shows us that magic and fantasy are real...even in adulthood.

Emmalee is a wonderful character, and she is the best person to narrate the story of Robert. She brings it to life!

Come on back for the letter f tomorrow!

2015 A to Z Challenge: Pianissimo - Day 5 (E)

For the third consecutive year, I am participating in the A to Z blog challenge.
http://www.a-to-zchallenge.com/

This year, we're going to go through my latest full-length novel, Pianissimo.

Today is the fifth day, so we're up to E. E is for extraordinary.

I know, that sounds egotistical at best, but please hear me out.

Pianissimo is my first paranormal story. It was a little tricky at first, but it began to flow fairly quickly. I had a lot of fun writing this story. It was a extraordinary experience to write it.

It's extraordinary in how it developed over two years. I watched this story transform from a small possibility into a novel that I am proud of. I have come a long way as a writer. I am excited to see these changes in myself, and in my work.

Pianissimo may not be my best work of all time, but it is the best that I have created thus far.

Check it out. You might just think it's extraordinary too! ;)

A to Z '14 - Easter

For this year's A to Z Challenge, I am honoring my grandfather who passed away on April 3, 2013.

E is for Easter.

I normally don't talk about religion or religious holidays too much. I have my reasons, most of which are because I believe in live & let live. Whatever you celebrate is wonderful, simple as that.

Easter, though, is important to me. It has always been an important holiday for me. Easter was always spent with my grandparents. Every Palm Sunday, my grandfather would give us little crosses made out of palm leaves. We spent Easter with them every year that I can recall. My mother still has the Easter basket I picked out with my grandfather.

When I was older, we still spent Easter Sunday with them. We would go out for early Easter dinners. I just loved spending Easter with them. It didn't necessarily need to be a production. Those are just some of the sweetest, happiest memories I have.

April 3rd fell on Holy Week last year. In the Catholic church, that's a good thing. I don't remember exactly what the priest said at his funeral, but he discussed how appropriate it was for him and how it was also a sign of resurrection and life after death.

This Easter will be a tough one without the most important person in my life. But I will always have those wonderful memories of Easters past.

E is for Easter.

E: Expression

Art is a form of expression. Love, pain, joy, gratitude, anger...we all need to express these feelings somehow. Art is the way.

I don't care HOW you express yourself, just that you do so. Create, destroy, paint, sing, dance, stomp. There are endless ways for us to express ourselves.

From the David to death metal, we all have our outlets of expression. Typically, these outlets are forms of art.

What inspires you to express yourself? How do you express yourself? Is your expression creative? If so, how so? ;)

Go on, express yourself!
