WeWriWa The Shelter Director

Hi kids! It's the weekend! You know what that means: it's time for WeWriWa! So come join us in the fun that is #8sunday! ;)

Click www.wewriwa.com for more information and to see other 8 Sentence Sunday posts.
This post is part of an ongoing blog hop hosted by Weekend Writing Warriors. Every Sunday, participating authors post eight sentences from a published work or even a WIP (work in progress). Then we hop to our fellow warriors’ blogs and check out all the fabulous fiction that’s happening! It's a great way to meet readers, writers, and your next favorite book!  :)

Here are 8 sentences from The Shelter Director, Jen's story in the Loving Her series.

Shy, quiet, humble – Jen is the kind of person that would give you the shirt off her back and then ask you what else you need. She may not be a movie star, but she’ll treat you like one. She works diligently to help save cats. She sacrifices her life and stability to accommodate her partner. She gives until it hurts, and her reward is a devastating diagnosis. What will her life become?

“Jen, you need to live it up! You’re always so quiet and shy. Stop holding yourself back. Just talk to her. Give yourself that experience. It’s not going to hurt anyone, right?” Fred smirked.

“Okay,” Jen replied trying to conjure up all the courage she had.

Happy reading!!!

Hi Lauren. Fred's got a little bit of an attitude on him, doesn't he! That's fine, maybe he knows that Jen needs more than a subtle push.

I don't get much feeling from Jen, though. How does she conjure up courage? Does she clench her teeth against a feeling of fear, does she make a silent resolve to speak to the other person? I know 8 sentences is not much room, but I know you can tweak this to make Jen's response a bit clearer and more effective.

Also, as a moderator, our team got a bit confused because you posted the story blurb right after saying "here are 8 sentences." Could you post the actual snippet right near the top of the post? That's easier for readers who want to visit a lot of blogs but have limited time.

Thanks so much for participating in WeWriWa :)

Oh, I do like this dialogue. Not crazy about the word smirk but it's your choice, of course. Love that she has a champion who supports her. She's such a sweetheart from your description. The title Shelter Director defines Jen.

Hey Lauren. It looks like she was very afraid to speak to her. I'm interested to see how she feels after speaking with her.

I also found the positioning of the story blurb a little confusing - figured it out tho as I scrolled down...

Jen sounds like a real sweetie with a bad case of nerves. I hope she takes Fred's encouragement and goes after who she wants. Great snippet.
