A to Z Theme Reveal

Okay kids. It's the day you've all been waiting for! It's time for my A to Z theme reveal!

This year's theme is...

The Good Pirate, Robert!

This is a current WIP (work in progress). It is my first shot at a fantasy-type story.

I want to give you a little background on this. Robert was the name of a bird we had. We have a few birds, including a pair of Lovebirds. They had had clutches (babies) in the past, but Mom (CJ) hadn't laid any eggs in a few years. That is until last summer.

She laid 7 eggs, 4 of which were viable. All 4 of those hatched. Unfortunately, we lost one pretty early on. The other 3, however, seemed to be thriving.

Robert was one of those babies. He had a brief encounter with one of our dogs. He survived, but there was obvious brain damage. Within hours, though, he showing us how tough and resilient he was.

One of the "symptoms" he showed was that he kept his right eye closed (he was able to open it after some time, but it seemed that he preferred to keep it closed). So I always said that he looked like a little pirate. That's where things kind of took off.

Daily, I shared pictures and videos of him and his siblings as they grew up. His siblings developed more quickly than he did. For example, when they were learning to fly, he was still learning to climb. Nothing kept him down, though. He was so determined; he seemed so bright and happy.

One night in September, I went to get him for his evening feeding, and he was dying. We're not sure what happened. We can only assume it is somehow related to the trauma and injuries. Perhaps he threw a blood clot, we don't know. It was a devastating loss.


Robert was such a happy guy, and when I announced his passing on Facebook, I was floored by the number of people who were saddened. People I had never met - people from around the globe who were touched by this little baby Lovebird. At that point, I knew his life wasn't in vain, and that there was something greater to him. That was when I began writing his story.


This book is not complete, in fact, it is very much still a rough draft. I want to use this month to honor Robert, to share his story, and to help this book improve.

Prepping

Hi kids!

I want to let you all know that I am prepping for this year's A to Z challenge, as I have done for the past few years. I'm also doing a second, independent one in May. In doing so, I will not be blogging during the month of March, so that I have time to get all of my posts perfect for the challenges. You will hear from me on the 21st when I reveal my theme for the official A to Z Challenge.

What to Expect...

Hello, hello!

Yet another Thursday is upon us, folks! We all know what that means!

Yes, it's blog time. And what am I blogging about? I'm blogging about...blogs.

We're in mid-March now (why does time fly by so quickly?!), so I thought I'd give you a guide to the up and coming.

Starting April 1, I will be participating in the A to Z Challenge again.

This is my third year doing so, and I am very excited about my theme for this year. What's my theme? You're gonna have to wait and find out! ;) The theme reveal is on the 23rd, so stay tuned!

Because of the A to Z, I will not be doing WeWriWa during the month of April. We will continue with our WeWriWas from The Model through the rest of March.

We will begin again in May, at which point, we'll be reading WeWriWas from The Vet Student.

So that takes us through the next 6-8 weeks-ish, not including my usual Thursday blog which, like the WeWriWas, will continue through March, and resume again in May.



I think that covers the basics. I hope y'all are as excited about all of this as I am. It's gonna be great!

Today's snippet comes from Pianissimo.

Darryl and Corinne Richards purchase their first house. With Darryl’s army career coming to a close, they feel ready to settle down in Louisville, Kentucky. With impeccable timing, Darryl is sent on one final tour, leaving Corinne to live in this new house and new city alone.

Overwhelmed, Corinne becomes reclusive, living a quiet, boring life with her cats as she adjusts to her new surroundings. The problem is: someone or some thing does not want her life to be either quiet or boring. And then there’s the creepy piano in the basement…

There is more to that creepy, dilapidated piano and her new home than Corinne could ever imagine. Through highs and lows, twists and turns, she begins to understand that even the most softly played music is powerful – and that even soft realizations and quietly subtle changes can have a profound effect.

Quick background: Corinne has been sorting through some old pictures and papers she found in a box in the basement.

Her hand hit something hard. What was that? Corinne finally looked down into the box.

It was a book! She clutched it and brought it up onto the table. She carefully opened the front cover.

With gentle trepidation, Corinne turned the first page.

A to Z Theme

Well happy Friday, evening, gang!

I just heard that today is official A to Z Theme Announcement day!

So better late than never, here is my theme...

My theme is my Grandfather. As some of you may recall, he passed away on April 3 last year. Working the A to Z challenge was difficult in more than one way.

To honor his memory and all the ways he blessed and enriched my life, my A to Z Theme will be "Popoo."


Popoo means grandfather in Greek. I'm sure we're misspelling it, but that was what we always called him. :)

So starting April 1, we will go through an emotional and alphabetical adventure together! :)

A: Art

First off, I want to thank Arlee Bird, the creator of this blog hop/challenge. Though I have not met him in person, I am inclined to think he's gotta be a pretty darn good guy & awfully smart to have come up with this! Thank you for this wonderful opportunity, Arlee! :)

And now onto today's letter: A.



Art. Art is. Art is subjective. Art is expression. Art is political. Art is thought-provoking. What is art? What isn't art?

When I was in college, I adored these statements and questions. For as universal as they are, the answers are also always unique. I love that about art. I love that what is art to me is not art to you, but we can still respect the medium, regardless of what it is.

Dance.


Music.


Writing.


Visual.



...art is indeed limitless. That, in my opinion, is the greatest gift of art.
